Bhubaneswar: Security forces have recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosive material and communication equipment from a concealed Maoist dump in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, in a major success for ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the region.
The recovery was made during a joint search and area-domination operation in Silkuta Reserve Forest under K. Balang police station limits. The operation was conducted by personnel of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) after security agencies received information during the interrogation of surrendered Naxals.
According to Rourkela Police, the concealed dump was found to be around four years old and contained arms, ammunition, explosives, communication equipment and other articles associated with Maoist activities.
Intelligence-based operation leads to recovery
The operation followed specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a concealed Maoist dump in the forested area.
Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani, in a post on X, said the information was obtained during the detailed interrogation of surrendered Naxals. Acting on the input, a joint DVF and BDDS team launched a search operation in Silkuta Reserve Forest under K. Balang police station.
During the search and area-domination exercise, the team detected the concealed dump and recovered a substantial quantity of operational material. The police described the recovery as a significant achievement in ongoing efforts to dismantle Maoist networks, disrupt their logistics and deny access to weapons, explosives and communication equipment.
AK-47, carbine and IED container seized
The cache included an AK-47 rifle, a CM 9mm 1A1 carbine, an IED container, detonators, magazines, ammunition and communication equipment.

According to details released by Rourkela Police, the recovered material included:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One CM 9mm 1A1 carbine
- One IED container
- 15 detonators
- Two magazines
- One Silling
- One Motorola walkie-talkie
- 20 rounds of 9mm ball ammunition
- One Kaiweets KM100 digital multimeter
- One battery charger
- One walkie-talkie frequency device
- Two walkie-talkie pouches and other pouches
The recovery of explosive-related material, ammunition and communication equipment from a concealed forest dump is considered significant because such material can provide security agencies with important leads about the logistical arrangements and movement of Maoist cadres.
