Jakarta: Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto on July 7, Tuesday announced that Indonesia has conferred its highest honour ‘Bintang Adipurna’ of the Republic of Indonesia’ medal of honour upon PM Modi. The Bintang Republik Indonesia (Star of the Republic of Indonesia) is Indonesia’s highest order awarded to both civilians and the military for their merits to the republic and the people. It was officially instituted in 1959. It is periodically bestowed upon foreign heads of state, who have played a pivotal role in fortifying bilateral relations.

This award is given to individuals who have rendered exceptional service to the unity, continuity and prosperity of the Republic of Indonesia. Established in 1959, the “Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna” represents the pinnacle of civilian and military recognition conferred by the Republic of Indonesia. This prestigious decoration is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to safeguarding the integrity, viability and greatness of the Indonesian nation.

In a post on X, the MEA said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The visit marks a significant step in advancing the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, opening new avenues for cooperation across priority sectors while reinforcing the deep trust, shared values and enduring friendship that bind the two countries.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicating the prestigious award and the highest civilian honour of Indonesia to the people of India as a testament to the enduring civilisational ties between the two democracies. He expressed deep gratitude during a joint press meet with President Prabowo.

“This morning, I was conferred Indonesia’s highest honour with great affection and respect. This honour belongs to the crores of Indians; it reflects the sentiments of the people of Indonesia and the historic, deep-rooted bonds between our two nations. I extend my heartfelt thanks to President Prabowo, the Government of Indonesia and the people here”, PM Modi stated.

Highlighting the relationship between the two countries PM Modi said that a golden era beckons both nations. “In these times of global turbulence, India believes that the role of dialogue and diplomacy has become more critical than ever. A golden era beckons both our nations. We share a common culture in our history, shared trust in the present and shared prosperity in our future. I am confident that, together, we will realize the visions of ‘Indonesia Emas'(Golden Indonesia) and a developed India”, PM Modi reiterated.
