Telangana: “Congress protecting MIM’s political interests in Barrister Fatima Owaisi Campus issue,” says Kishan Reddy

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy accused the Congress Government of protecting the political interests of the MIM in the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Campus case, as the Telangana High Court directed GHMC, the Irrigation Department and other authorities to submit within a week report on building permissions, FTL status and approvals related to the institution in Hyderabad's Salkam Cheruvu area

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy has accused the Congress Government of protecting the political interests of the MIM while dealing with allegations concerning the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Campus, reported to be located within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu in Bandlaguda Kalsa.

In a post on X, Kishan Reddy questioned, “Fear of the MIM? Love for the MIM? Or both?” He alleged that the Revanth Reddy Government was adopting selective enforcement by acting swiftly against ordinary citizens while remaining silent in the case involving the educational institution.

“In its lust for commissions from land and real estate deals, the Revanth Reddy Government is willing to sacrifice the livelihoods of ordinary citizens while going to any extent to protect the Majlis party. HYDRAA has become a symbol of this selective governance, swift and ruthless against the common man, but silent and indecisive when allegations concern the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Campus, reported to be located in the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu,” the Union Minister said.

Kishan Reddy’s remarks came as the Telangana High Court continued hearing a writ petition concerning the alleged constructions at the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Institutions in Hyderabad’s Salkam Cheruvu area.

On July 3, the Telangana High Court issued an ultimatum to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Irrigation Department and other authorities to submit, within one week, reports on the permissions granted for constructions undertaken by the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Institutions.

The High Court directed the authorities to furnish details relating to GHMC building permissions, the status of the Full Tank Level (FTL) determination and approvals granted for running educational institutions on the site. The Court warned that it would issue appropriate orders if the reports were not submitted within the stipulated period.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of clarity despite its earlier directions issued on April 13 and April 30, the High Court observed that nearly three months had elapsed without the authorities submitting comprehensive reports on all permissions relating to the Owaisi educational institutions located in Salkam Cheruvu.

The case arose from a writ petition filed by advocate Vijay Gopal, who alleged that illegal constructions had been carried out within the FTL and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu (HMDA Lake ID: 4001/1) in Bandlaguda Kalsa. The petitioner told the Court that despite submitting multiple complaints between August and September 2024 through online platforms and written representations, HYDRAA had failed to take action.

The petitioner further argued that while authorities had acted against other alleged encroachments based on public complaints, similar action had not been initiated in the case involving the educational institution.

Referring to the court proceedings, Kishan Reddy alleged that despite repeated observations of the Telangana High Court, questions over delays and inaction, and records being sought from departments including HYDRAA and the Education Department, “the Congress Government has failed to act with the same urgency it shows against the common man.”

The Union Minister further alleged that the Congress Government was shielding the MIM for political reasons.

“The Congress Government is treating the MIM as if it represents all Muslims, which is simply not true. HYDRAA’s actions have affected poor Muslims as well, with their homes and livelihoods being demolished. Yet, when these demolitions took place, neither the MIM nor the Congress stepped up or protested on behalf of these vulnerable families. However, when the issue concerns assets linked to the MIM, both parties are seen standing together. This shows that what is being protected is not the Muslim community, but the political interests of the MIM,” he said.

Kishan Reddy said the episode involving the Fatima educational institutions had “highlighted this clearly, exposing both the Congress Government’s vote-bank politics and the MIM’s double standards, and showing that no party can claim to represent an entire community.”

Claiming that the government’s priorities were evident, he said, “For the poor, there are bulldozers. For the Congress-Majlis political ecosystem, there is protection. Public land, lakes and government resources belong to the people of Telangana, not to those protected by political patronage.”

Urging the State Government to ensure uniform enforcement of the law, Kishan Reddy said, “I urge the Congress Government to remove its communal and vote-bank lens from governance, stop shielding its political allies, and uphold one Constitution, one rule of law and one standard of justice for every citizen of Telangana. Selective enforcement is destroying public faith in governance, and the people of Telangana will hold this Government accountable.”

The writ petition was filed by advocate Vijay Gopal, who alleged that illegal constructions had been carried out within the FTL and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu, identified as HMDA Lake ID: 4001/1 in Bandlaguda Kalsa.

He told the court that despite submitting multiple complaints between August and September 2024 through online platforms and written representations, HYDRAA had failed to take action.

The petitioner further argued that while authorities had acted against other encroachments based on public complaints, they had not taken similar action in this case involving the educational institution.
