Mumbai: In a massive political triumph for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, the ruling coalition swept the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections, winning 16 of the 17 seats that went to the polls. The results underline the growing dominance of the NDA in Maharashtra and reflect strong public confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government.

The BJP emerged as the biggest winner in the contest, securing the largest share of seats, while its allies Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also registered impressive victories. In stark contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)—comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction)—failed to win a single seat.

The elections were held for 17 seats across various Local Authorities’ Constituencies. Even before polling, Mahayuti had demonstrated its organisational strength by ensuring the unopposed election of several candidates. The final results further cemented the alliance’s overwhelming advantage across the state. Political observers view the outcome as another endorsement of the BJP’s grassroots network and the governance agenda pursued by the Mahayuti government. The victory comes amid a series of electoral successes for the NDA and is expected to strengthen the alliance’s position ahead of future political battles in Maharashtra. The only exception to an otherwise complete sweep came in Nashik, where Independent candidate Gokul Gite defeated the official Shiv Sena nominee. Despite this isolated result, the broader NDA camp maintained an overwhelming lead, securing 16 of the 17 available seats.

For the opposition, the outcome raises serious questions about its relevance and organisational effectiveness. Congress failed to open its account, while both Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) suffered a complete rout. The results are likely to intensify internal debates within the MVA over leadership, strategy, and electoral preparedness.

The MLC election verdict once again highlights the BJP-led alliance’s strong connection with local representatives and reinforces Mahayuti’s status as the dominant political force in Maharashtra.
