Bhubaneswar:  The cow mafias are active in various parts of the Khurda district of Odisha and are trying to illegally transport cows to slaughterhouses outside the state by loading them in vehicles in an extremely inhuman manner. However due to the vigilant activists of Hindu organizations, such attempts by the cow mafia have failed at the Khuda District.

According to the reports, when the cow smugglers were preparing to transport cows illegally from the Bhagwatipada area of Khurda district to the slaughterhouse of another state, Karyakatras of Hindu organizations reached there. They immediately informed the police of Nirakarpur police station in this regard. They handed over a vehicle along with the driver and helper of the vehicle to the police. The Nirakarpur police team has arrested both the accused.

“The local people saw the cow traffickers trying to take away five cows from the Bhagwatipada area of Khordha district on Wednesday night.   Cows are tied in an extremely inhuman manner in the vehicle They stopped the vehicle and handed it over to the police. Nirakarpur police station has registered a case in this regard. Police arrested two accused persons. Those arrested include S.K Rashid, resident of Shardhapur village under the Model police station area of Khurda district and SK Sajid, resident of Mukund Prasad village of Khordha Industrial Area police station. ”informed a Police official of Nirakarpur Police Station.

“After the accused were arrested, they were medically examined. After this, they were forwarded to the court. The vehicle in which the cows were being transported has been seized by the police. Similarly, the rescued cows have been sent to the Bolagada Gaushala.” the police  official added

It may be noted that Odisha has its own laws to prevent cow slaughtering and illegal transportation of Cows namely the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1960, Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1966. However, it is often seen that these laws are not implemented properly. It is also repeatedly alleged that cow smugglers are in collusion with the police. Due to this, cow smuggling continues to take place in the state quite freely.
