Lawyers at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court staged a protest on October 15, 2026, condemning Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s actions outside the Supreme Court and urging political parties not to politicise the judiciary. The protest was held under the banner of “Save Judiciary, Save Democracy”.
The protests being staged in Delhi in the name of CJP are being driven by anti-national and anti-social elements seeking to turn a non-issue into a major controversy.
In this situation, Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi, Supriya Sule and others are behaving without any sense of responsibility expected of leaders of the Opposition in this country. Merely because permission was denied, they announced that they would approach the Supreme Court and submit a memorandum. In what was described as an unprecedented move in Indian history, they staged a spectacle outside the Supreme Court gates, behind barricades, creating tension and an atmosphere of unrest. Their actions appeared calculated to bring India into disrepute before the international community.
Expressing his displeasure, our Chief Justice remarked, “Do not bring politics into the judiciary.” It is deeply shameful that leaders who claim to represent the nation on the global stage had to be reminded of this basic principle. We strongly condemn their conduct.
Let this be clear: do not attempt to politicise the judiciary under any circumstances. You have every right to protest on the streets, but do not drag your political battles into the justice system. The judiciary is not a platform for petty politics. Keep your politics on the streets.
If this continues, we will once again take to the streets and launch massive agitations. Today, lawyers who are committed to national interests and share this ideology have gathered here. We issue this ultimatum to the Congress, cockroaches, and all other Opposition parties: keep your politics on the streets and do not drag the courts into your political battles.
This is precisely why we are holding this protest under the banners of “Save Judiciary, Save Democracy.” Today, we are protesting in Madurai. In the coming days, similar protests will be held across the country. Understand your limits and do not attempt to politicise the courts again.
Protesting within court premises is inappropriate. Even when we have grievances, we do not simply march into courtrooms. If there is a platform outside to express your dissent, why enter the court premises? A Leader of the Opposition is a person whom the entire nation looks up to. When someone of that stature enters the premises and others follow, raising slogans, shouting and holding hands, what impression does such conduct create?
This is a basic question: if you want to submit a memorandum, to whom should you submit it? You can approach elected representatives, the government or the Union Home Ministry. But does anyone ordinarily go to the Supreme Court to submit a memorandum? Has anyone ever heard of such a practice?
Rahul Gandhi deliberately planned and orchestrated this entire spectacle, seemingly with the intention of humiliating India on the global stage. To claim that they were marching to the Supreme Court simply because permission had been denied is absurd. What kind of logic is this?
