NEW DELHI: Seeking to expand student participation beyond traditional campus politics, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)-led Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) has launched 26 student cells aimed at providing a wider platform for students to showcase their talents, pursue their interests and take up leadership roles across diverse fields.

The initiative follows ABVP’s emphatic victory in the DUSU elections and seeks to translate the electoral mandate into broader student engagement. The newly launched cells are designed to bring students from different academic, cultural and social backgrounds into university activities, with opportunities ranging from creative arts and sports to technology, research, entrepreneurship and community service.

The 26 cells cover a wide spectrum of student interests, including Cultural, Alumni Relations, Community Outreach, Debate and Public Relations, Diversity and Inclusion, Environment, Students with Disabilities, Technical, Fashion, Film and Photography, Ideological, Fine Arts, Hostel, Legal Aid, Innovation and Incubation, International Students, Literary, Media and Publications, Mental Health and Wellness, Sports, Research and Development, Startup and Entrepreneurship, Theatre and Dramatic Arts, North-East, Women Empowerment, and Commerce.

Through these platforms, DUSU aims to encourage students to move beyond classroom learning and actively participate in activities that nurture creativity, critical thinking, social responsibility and professional skills. The cells are also expected to create opportunities for students to develop new ideas, collaborate with peers and contribute to a more dynamic campus environment.

DUSU President Yash Dabas said the University of Delhi was more than an educational institution, describing it as a meeting point for diverse talents, ideas and aspirations from across the country.

“The purpose behind launching these cells is to provide every student with a platform suited to their interests and talents, where they can recognise their potential, develop their abilities, and actively contribute to university life,” Dabas said.

He added that DUSU wanted to ensure its activities were not confined to a select group of students, but instead encouraged participation from across the university.

“Our endeavour is to ensure that DUSU activities are not limited to a select group of students, but that the participation of as many students of the University of Delhi as possible is ensured,” he said, urging students to join the cells, take leadership and work collectively on new ideas.

The initiative places particular emphasis on areas such as mental health and wellness, disability inclusion, women’s empowerment, environmental awareness and support for students from the North-East, alongside platforms for innovation, startups, research and cultural expression.
