What is RSS Path Sanchalan?
RSS Path Sanchalan, or a route march, is an important tradition of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in which Swayamsevaks march together in ‘Ganvesh’, maintaining discipline and synchronised steps, accompanied by a ‘Ghosh vadan’. It reflects the Sangh’s emphasis on unity, discipline and collective responsibility.
The march is not merely a physical activity but a public expression of the Sangh’s organisational strength, commitment to national service and spirit of collective action. Through coordinated movement, Swayamsevaks demonstrate how individuals can work together with a shared purpose.
Path Sanchalan is organised on various occasions, including Vijayadashami, the foundation day of the RSS, and during special programmes and other organisational events. Vijayadashami holds particular significance as it marks the establishment of the RSS by Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in 1925. On such occasions, the march provides an opportunity for Swayamsevaks to reaffirm their commitment to the Sangh’s ideals.
During Path Sanchalan, the rhythmic beats of ghosh vadan accompany the disciplined march of Swayamsevaks, while local residents and family members of swayamsevaks shower flower petals on them.
