Keralam: Kasaragod teacher suspended over Savarkar quiz question; BJP leader K Surendran calls it ‘witch-hunt’

An upper primary school teacher, Guru Prasad Master, of Pallathadukka in Kasaragod, has been suspended from service over a question he prepared for a Freedom Quiz asking for the name of the person who underwent the lengthiest jail term under British rule in connection with the freedom struggle. Veer Savarkar was among the objective answers to the question.

BJP leader K. Surendran, reacting to the suspension on August 9, strongly condemned the action and said that no one can launch a witch-hunt against the teacher for preparing a question about Veer Savarkar. Surendran said that Veer Savarkar underwent the lengthiest jail term during the British Raj and that the teacher’s suspension was extremely deplorable.

Surendran said that the fact that Veer Savarkar underwent the lengthiest jail term is a historical fact. The master can prove his innocence in any court. He will get his salaries and emoluments with interest. The BJP leader assured his party’s support in the master’s fight for justice. It is worse than vote bank politics. The government will bite the dust. He challenged the government to ‘wait and see’.

In Keralam, a teacher was suspended for preparing a Freedom Quiz that asked:

“Which freedom fighter spent the longest time in prison?”

The answer: Veer Savarkar.@vdsatheesan What exactly is wrong with that answer?

Suspending a teacher over a historically defensible answer is…

— K Surendran (@surendranbjp) August 9, 2026

The BJP leader stated that no one has so far stated that Veer Savarkar was not a freedom fighter. No one can deny the fact that he was jailed. The only allegation the Congress and Left Jihadis have raised is his apology to the government for release from jail. Recently, Veer Savarkar’s grandson Sathyaki Savarkar commented that it was the normal procedure every prisoner used for applying for bail and release like this.

Former BJP president said that the allegation of apology charged against him is still under dispute. No one can deny that Veer Savarkar was jailed for decades and it was not for criminal activity.

Government action of suspending Guru Prasad is a blatant action to appease the minority vote bank leaders and the forces who are always against nationalistic streams of thought and history.
