New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly condemned an alleged altercation involving its activists and members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD), accusing the Left-wing student organisation of disrupting its welcome helpdesk and subsequently attempting to portray itself as a victim.
According to ABVP, its activists had set up a student helpdesk at the university as part of its annual initiative to welcome freshers and assist them with admission, academic and campus-related concerns. The organisation alleged that AISA members objected to the presence of the helpdesk, made provocative remarks and attempted to disrupt the activity.
The ABVP claimed that the confrontation escalated when AISA members allegedly manhandled its activists and attempted to forcibly remove the helpdesk, resulting in a scuffle on the campus.
Taking a strong position against AISA, ABVP accused the organisation of using confrontation and controversy as a political tactic. It alleged that AISA was attempting to convert the incident into a publicity exercise by creating a confrontation and subsequently portraying itself as the victim.
The student organisation also rejected AISA’s alleged claims of an “unprovoked attack” and an “ABVP-BJP-Administration nexus”, describing them as an attempt to divert attention from what it termed the actual sequence of events.
“Political slogans and dramatic statements cannot change facts on the ground,” ABVP said, asserting that differences in ideology are a natural part of university life but intimidation, alleged manhandling and disruption of another student organisation’s activities cannot be justified.
ABVP further accused AISA of attempting to disturb peace on the campus and manufacture a political narrative around the incident. It maintained that university campuses should remain spaces for democratic debate, healthy political engagement and student participation.
The organisation said it would not be deterred by such confrontations and announced that its student helpdesks would continue to operate across campuses to welcome freshers and assist students with academic and campus-related issues.
