Kozhikode Cyber Police have registered a case against transgender makeup artist Jaanmoni Das in connection with her abusive comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. She resorted to this deplorable abuse based on a fake video. The remarks crossed all limits. She repeated claims propagated by a YouTube channel, which falsely alleged details about the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father and circulated fabricated dates related to his family. Several fact-checking websites have since confirmed that the video is fake.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Bharatiya Mahila Morcha state president Adv. Navya Haridas.

On July 27, the Kerala BJP leadership demanded the registration of a criminal case against Jaanmoni Das and resolved to submit a complaint to the State Police Chief.

In the meantime, Jaanmoni Das has issued a public apology. However, the BJP has maintained that her apology is not acceptable, stating that the issue is not due to a language barrier but that her comments and stand were deliberate.

In an Instagram video, Jaanmoni Das said that she had no intention of hurting anyone and wanted to apologise publicly. She claimed that she did not make derogatory comments about the Prime Minister’s mother but was only questioning the content of the video she had watched. She said that her poor Malayalam was one of the reasons for the misunderstanding. She added that if she had hurt anyone, she sincerely apologised and requested people to treat her like a child and forgive her.

Jaanmoni said that after searching on Google, she realised that what she had said was wrong. She admitted that she should have cross-checked the information before making the statement and expressed deep regret, which prompted her to post the apology video.

Despite her apology, BJP workers and supporters of Prime Minister Modi remain angry over her remarks about the Prime Minister’s late mother and continue to file complaints against her.
