The 30th Sindhu Darshan Yatra, commemorated as Pratham Sindhu Kumbh, was far more than a religious gathering. It marked a new chapter in Bharat’s civilisational journey by transforming the three-decade-old Sindhu Darshan Yatra into a much larger national and spiritual movement. Conceived as the first-ever Kumbh on the banks of the sacred Sindhu river, the event celebrated not only faith but also Bharat’s history, culture, national unity, environmental consciousness and Himalayan heritage. Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti, under the guidance of its patron Shri Indresh Kumar ji, envisioned the gathering as an opportunity for Bharatiyas to reconnect with their ancient roots, remembering that the Sindhu is not merely a geographical feature but a living symbol of Bharat’s continuity from the Vedic age to the present.
Preparations for the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh began in the last quarter of 2025. The yatris from all over Bharat started getting themselves registered as per the route of their choice out of four routes.
SD1 (By air): Yatris from Delhi and other metropolitan cities reached Leh on June 22 by SD1 route where they were warmly welcomed and sent to their respective hotels.
SD2 (Kurukshetra – Leh – Jammu): Yatris of this route started reaching Kurukshetra from all corners of Bharat on June 17 as they wanted to visit the historical city too. In the evening of June 18, all the yatris were welcomed by the route organisers, and after a community dinner, all the yatris proceeded to Leh via Manali
and Keylong.
SD3 (Jammu – Leh – Kurukshetra)
SD4 (Jammu – Leh – Jammu)
In the morning of June 18, yatris of both these routes proceeded to Leh via Srinagar and Kargil.
This way, yatris of all the routes arrived in Leh by the morning of June 22.
On June 22, a grand welcome ceremony was organised on the grounds of NDS Sports Complex, Leh. All the yatris, with lots of excitement and happiness on their faces, joined us. Each one of them was welcomed with a khatak, which filled their hearts with pride. Here, all were welcomed by Shri Indresh Kumar ji’s inspirational words and entertained by the excellent performances of the artists of North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC). The patriotic songs made everyone stand from their chairs and dance.
On June 23, Sindhu Utsav celebrations were held at Sindhu Ghat. By 8:30 am, the organisers and the yatris started arriving at Sindhu Ghat with saffron-coloured caps on their heads and bags with the Sindhu Darshan Yatra name hanging on their shoulders. Everyone looked excited as they were going through a unique experience to be cherished for the rest of their lives.
Grand Welcome
With the arrival of the Chief Guest, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, the celebrations began. National Flag was unfurled, followed by the National Anthem. Eminent guests Smt Nimuben Bambhaniya, MOS, Shri Vijender Gupta, Speaker, Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Vasudev Devnani, Speaker, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, religious gurus Swami Chidanand Saraswati ji, Shri Devkinandan ji Maharaj, Swami Yatindranand ji. Ambassadors from Fiji, Ecuador, Chile, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Ireland also arrived, and the programme began with the address of His Eminence the 8th Chokyong Palga Rimpoche. The programme began with the Kalash Yatra, and the sacred water brought from 156 countries was offered to the pious Sindhu river in the presence of priests of various faiths – Bodh, Sanatan, Muslim, Sikh and Christian.
On this occasion, LG Vinai Saxena, in his address, welcomed all the yatris from all over Bharat and Ambassador of various countries. He added that this is the first time that yatris from all the States of Bharat and abroad have come to participate in the celebrations and the people feel honoured to welcome them all. He urged everyone to keep Leh’s environment clean so that Leh’s beauty and nature are not disturbed and Leh becomes a plastic-free zone.
June 24 was the Behrana Pujan, which is also a major part of the Sindhu Utsav celebration. Not only Sindhis but yatris of all faiths and communities worshipped and participated in the puja with great enthusiasm. Sindhu Arti is also a great achievement of Pratham Sindhu Kumbh. Sindhu Arti was written and composed, and it was sung at Sindhu Ghat.
June 25 was assigned for local sightseeing, and June 26 was the day for the Closing Ceremony. All the yatris reached NDS Sports Complex at about 5:00 pm with both happy and sad emotions. They were happy as the journey went so smoothly and they were now returning home. They were sad as they were departing from their co-yatris with whom they had jelled up so well within a few days. Here they were entertained with the wonderful performances of the artists of NZCC. Later, Shri Indresh Kumar ji addressed the yatris. Each and every word spoken by him was so inspiring.
A Sacred Confluence of Faiths
An extraordinary aspect of the Sindhu Darshan tradition has always been the participation of multiple faiths. Buddhist monks like His Eminence the 8th Chokyong Palga Rimpoche ji, Hindu saints – Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati ji, Pujya Devkinand Thakur ji, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Yatindranand ji Maharaj and many more, Sikh representatives, Muslim community leaders and Christian clergy have historically participated in ceremonies on the banks of the Sindhu.
Unity through Sacred Waters
One of the most inspiring and symbolic highlights of the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh was the Kalash Yatra, which beautifully reflects Bharat’s spirit of unity in diversity. Devotees from across the country carried sacred waters collected from rivers, lakes, and holy water bodies representing different states and regions of Bharat. These sacred waters were ceremonially offered to the holy Sindhu River, symbolising the cultural, spiritual, and emotional unity of the nation.

The Kalash Yatra evolved into a significant cultural and diplomatic event. It witnessed the participation of the spouses of several Ambassadors, whose presence added an international dimension to the ceremony and strengthened the message of global harmony and cultural friendship. The participation of Smt. Sangeeta Saxena, wife of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, further elevated the dignity of the occasion. The ceremony was also graced by Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya, Hon’ble Minister of State, Government of Gujarat, whose participation reflected the support of different States in celebrating Bharat’s shared civilisational heritage. Adding to the significance of the event, Smt Shobha Gupta, the wife of Shri Videndra Gupta ji, the Hon’ble Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, also took part in the Kalash Yatra, demonstrating solidarity with the ideals of national integration and cultural preservation.
Hence, the Pratham Sindhu Kumbh has emerged as an international platform for cultural exchange, peace, environmental awareness, and the universal message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family. Pratham Sindhu Kumbh stands at the intersection of history, spirituality, culture, patriotism and ecology. It reminds the world that the Sindhu is not only a river but a civilisational lifeline whose waters have witnessed the rise of one of humanity’s oldest cultures. By bringing together people from diverse regions, traditions and communities in the Himalayan heartland of Ladakh, the Kumbh rekindled awareness of Bharat’s timeless heritage while inspiring a vision of unity, harmony and environmental responsibility for generations to come.
