Paris Knife Attack: Man shouting “Allah Commanded Me” attacks 3 women including a pregnant; Victims remain critical

In a horrific incident, a man attacked women in a broad daylight in the streets of Paris. Three women including a pregnant are hospitalised and condition remains critical. The man also repeatedly shouted that Allah commanded him, while escalating the violent attack

Paris: Three women, including a pregnant woman, were injured in a knife attack in northern Paris on July 27, Monday after a man armed with two butcher’s knives went on a stabbing the people around him, claiming that “Allah commanded” him to kill. The suspect was eventually controlled and disarmed by the bystanders. He was soon taken into custody by an off-duty police officer.

The incident also reflects growing radical elements in the European and other western countries, who are emerging as a threat to public security. These incidents of targeted attack in the name of religion or faith, is increasing in the European countries in the recent years.

French authorities also said that the suspect made “incoherent statements” during his arrest and that his identity has not yet been verified. The incident occurred at around 11:30 AM  local time in the Porte de Clichy area, close to the Paris Court.

Bystanders intervene as suspect attacks women in broad daylight

According to eyewitnesses and videos surfaced in the online platforms, the suspect, described as a long-haired man, dressed in a cream-coloured tracksuit, was seen walking through the busy street carrying two large kitchen knives before attacking random women in the streets.

As an impact of the assault, three women aged 19, 24 and 36 were injured. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said two of the victims suffered serious injuries and were in critical condition after being rushed to hospital. One woman sustained a stab wound to her lower back, while another suffered an abdominal injury. Local officials later confirmed that one of the victims was pregnant.

A  video captured by the bystander showed the suspect attempting to stab another woman as pedestrians fled the scene. The people in the vicinity who were filming the incident also repeatedly warned the public to stay away from the “armed lunatic”. The culprit was ultimately controlled and the attack was halted after several members of the public intervened.

One of the eyewitness who filmed the incident, recounted how the crowd acted quickly to stop the violence. “When I saw him stab a woman in the back, I started shouting, ‘Come on, let’s stop him!’ Several people stepped in”, the eye witness told a private news agency. According to him, one individual threw a small suitcase at the attacker, causing him to drop both knives.

Additional footages circulating in the social media platforms show the culprit being restrained on a pedestrian crossing while two butcher’s knives lay nearby before police arrived and took him into custody. Several witnesses described scenes of chaos as the attack unfolded in broad daylight.

Kheira Dellabed, a 54-year-old waitress working nearby, told, she was washing dishes when she saw the attacker walk past carrying two knives before stabbing multiple people. She said a young man carrying a small suitcase struck the attacker with his luggage, knocking him to the ground. Moments later, a waiter from a nearby restaurant placed a chair on top of the attacker to help prevent him from escaping until police arrived.

Attacker invokes Allah: Reflects growing radical elements

Eye witnesses told private news platforms that while being restrained and arrested, the attacker repeatedly declared, “It is Allah who commanded me”. French authorities have stressed that the motive behind the attack remains under investigation. Police have also said that the man’s identity has yet to be formally established.
