NEW DELHI: The ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar took a controversial turn after suspended Uttarakhand Police constable Sher Singh appeared on the protest stage and publicly displayed what he described as his resignation from the police force. The move immediately drew attention on social media and raised questions about the validity of the announcement, given that Sher Singh has reportedly been under suspension for over a year.
According to available information, Sher Singh was suspended by the Uttarakhand Police in 2025 following his arrest in a criminal case registered in Haridwar. The case reportedly involved allegations of facilitating the illegal occupation of land belonging to economically weaker sections, criminal intimidation, and links to an organised group allegedly involved in such activities. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody, after which departmental action resulted in his suspension.
Since then, Sher Singh has not been serving in an active policing role. Against this backdrop, his decision to announce his “resignation” during the CJP protest has prompted observers to question the practical and legal significance of the move.
After the expose Abhijeet Dipke is under scanner as he seems to have just pulled off the biggest fraud of his career today. He staged a massive drama, claiming an active Uttarakhand Police constable was resigning from his job to support their protest.
Several commentators have argued that a suspended government employee remains under departmental proceedings and is not performing official duties. They contend that the circumstances surrounding such a resignation are subject to service rules and administrative procedures, making its public announcement a matter requiring official clarification.
In recent months, Sher Singh has also reportedly been seen participating in programmes linked to various political and social organisations. However, these reports have not been independently verified, and no official confirmation has been issued regarding any formal political affiliation.
His appearance at the CJP protest has now added another dimension to the ongoing agitation over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 examination irregularities. Critics have questioned whether the episode diverted attention from the protest’s stated objectives, while supporters viewed it as a personal decision expressing solidarity with the movement.
As of now, neither the Uttarakhand Police nor the state government has issued any official statement regarding Sher Singh’s purported resignation or its legal status. It also remains unclear whether any formal resignation has been submitted through the prescribed administrative process or whether the announcement was limited to the public event.
With the issue attracting attention online, the incident has become a subject of political and public debate, even as questions remain over the status and validity of the resignation announced from the protest stage.
