New Delhi: The Sahakar Bharati–BJP alliance has achieved a resounding victory in the five-year elections for the Board of Directors of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), the apex body of the cooperative sector. Voting was held on 18 July, and according to results based on the counting completed on 19 July, alliance-backed candidates won 19 of the 20 seats, creating a new record. The final results will be formally announced by the Central Election Authority.
Among the prominent winners are Sahakar Bharati patron Deenanath Thakur, IFFCO Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani, NCDFI Chairman Minesh Shah, KRIBHCO Chairman Bipin Patel, NAFED’s Mohanbhai Kundariya, NCCF Chairman Vishal Singh, Vinay Kumar Shahi, Maharashtra’s Pravin Darekar, Karnataka’s G.T. Devegowda, Manipur’s Jina Potsangbam, Gujarat’s Ghanshyam Amin, Uttar Pradesh’s Dhananjay Singh, Karnataka’s H.K. Patil, Lucknow’s Mudit Verma, Belagavi’s Annasaheb Jolle, and Maharashtra’s Nakul Kadu, among others.
One of the significant thing of the election was that 10 candidates were elected unopposed. Sahakar Bharati National General Secretary Deepak Chaurasia has also been nominated as the representative of the Government of India.
In another closely watched contest, Sahakar Bharati National Vice-President Sunil Gupta was involved in a tie and was unsuccessful after the counting of ballot papers. BJP MLC Sanjay Bhinde also suffered defeat.
Leaders from the cooperative sector expressed confidence that under the leadership of the newly elected NCUI Board, the institution’s stature and prestige would reach new heights and the cooperative movement would be further strengthened.
The election campaign received guidance from several senior leaders, including Sahakar Bharati National President Dr Uday Joshi, National General Secretary Deepak Chaurasia, patron Deenanath Thakur, Organisation Secretary Sanjay Pachpor, BJP National Organisation General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, and NDDB Vice-Chairman Kuldeep Chehal.
Sahakar Bharati and the BJP Cooperative Cell described the victory as an important step towards strengthening the cooperative movement and promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in cooperative institutions across the country.
