RAIPUR: Security forces recovered a concealed cache of arms and ammunition belonging to Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district during a joint search operation conducted on July 17 by district police and personnel of the 58th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF).

Confirming the development, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Patel stated that continuous efforts are being made to further strengthen security in areas previously affected by Maoist activity. He said joint teams of Narayanpur Police and the BSF have been carrying out intensive search operations to locate weapons, explosives, and other materials hidden by insurgents in the past.

During one such operation, security personnel searched a suspected location in the dense forests of Kachchapal under Kohkameta police station limits, where they discovered a hidden arms dump. The materials were safely recovered and taken into custody.

The seized items include one .303 rifle, one .315 rifle, a locally made barrel launcher, 17 live cartridges of .303 bore, 10 live rounds of 7.62 mm, four 12-bore cartridges, an empty .303 magazine, two cartridge fillers, and three .303 tracer rods. All items have been confiscated, and legal proceedings have been initiated at the Kohkameta police station.

Police officials said that sustained operations are being conducted in Maoist-free areas of the district to maintain peace and security. These operations have led to the continuous recovery of weapons, explosives, and other materials that had been hidden by Maoists over the years.

According to security experts, such hidden caches of arms and ammunition serve as a critical resource for insurgents, enabling future attacks and equipping newly recruited cadres. The recovery of these stockpiles not only weakens their combat capabilities but also disrupts their logistical networks.

Officials further noted that the ongoing joint operations indicate a strategic shift from merely monitoring Maoist activities to systematically dismantling their legacy arms reserves.

In recent years, the influence of Maoists in the Abujhmad region and the interior areas of Narayanpur has steadily declined due to the sustained presence of security forces, establishment of new security camps, expansion of road infrastructure, and regular search operations. Areas once considered difficult to access are now witnessing continuous security operations.

The consistent recovery of hidden weapons and explosives suggests that former Maoist hideouts and stockpiles are gradually being neutralised, delivering a direct impact on their operational strength as well as their logistical support systems.
