Hyderabad School Controversy: Hindu parents object after Class 2 student reportedly asked to recite Kalma

A controversy has erupted at a private school in Hyderabad's Saidabad after the parents of a Class 2 Hindu student claimed their child was instructed to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha during school activities. The incident has reignited debate over religious instruction in educational institutions and the need to uphold religious neutrality in schools

Saidabad: A fresh controversy has surfaced in Hyderabad after the parents of a Class 2 Hindu student alleged that their child was instructed to recite the Kalma and Surah Fatiha at a private school in Saidabad. The allegations have reignited a wider debate over religious instruction in educational institutions, particularly those catering to students from diverse faiths.

An angry mother can be seen confronting the school in which the teachers are forcing 2nd class children to write kalma.

When the mother is questioning, burqa clad teachers are trying to brush it off saying it might be by mistake. How is it by mistake every day?

According to the parents, their child informed them that students were being asked to recite Islamic prayers during school activities. They alleged that the child had also been made to write or memorise the Kalma and Surah Fatiha. A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the student’s mother confronting the school management over the issue, demanding an explanation and strict action against those responsible.

The parents have reportedly objected to what they described as an inappropriate religious practice in a school attended by children from different faiths. The incident has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many calling for a fair and impartial investigation rather than drawing conclusions based solely on viral videos.

Similar Controversy in Telangana Last Month

The Saidabad allegations come just weeks after another controversy involving a private school in Armoor, Nizamabad district, Telangana.

In June 2026, parents alleged that primary school students at Bharat Chandra High School were being taught Urdu, Kalima and Namaz despite the school lacking permission to teach Urdu as part of its curriculum. Following the complaints, officials from the police, revenue and education departments visited the school and launched an inquiry. Cases were registered against the school’s correspondent, principal and a teacher, while a separate FIR was filed against BJP workers accused of trespassing into the campus and assaulting the principal during protests. The matter remains under investigation.

The Hyderabad allegations also recall previous controversies reported in other states. In December 2025, a private school in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar came under scrutiny after videos allegedly showed students reciting the Kalma during morning prayers. Following public protests, education authorities issued a notice to the school and initiated an inquiry. The school principal later acknowledged that the prayer had been conducted for nearly a year and said it was discontinued after objections were raised.

In 2025, another controversy emerged in Haryana’s Panipat, where a teacher at a private school was dismissed after parents alleged that she had taught Islamic verses to students. The incident also led to protests and police intervention.
