Guwahati: Islamist from Assam not only indulge in the ill practice of ‘Love Jihad’ in the state, but also in other parts of the country. Despite several tough initiatives by the state government, Islamist are committing Love Jihad continuously in Assam and this time they committed the crime in Uttar Pradesh. A 24-year-old man from the Satgaon area of Guwahati has been arrested in connection with a Love Jihad case registered in Noida, following a joint operation by Uttar Pradesh and Assam Police.

According to police, Illias Ahmed, a resident of Satgaon who had moved to Delhi for higher studies and was living in a rented room in Sector 56, Greater Noida. The Islamist used a fake identity, including a Hindu name and a social media profile under that name, to get close to a Hindu woman from Sector 56.

The woman went missing on April 13 and her family approached the Noida Sector 56 police station the next day to file an FIR. Police began investigating but were initially unable to trace either Ahmed or the missing woman. Illias eloped with the victim from Noida promising her to marry and for the last two months the victim didn’t communicate with her family.

The case took a turn this week when a team from Noida Police arrived in Guwahati on June 14 and began working with Assam Police on a joint investigation. The collaboration paid off quickly — Ahmed was traced and arrested in Guwahati on June 15. A case has been registered against him under Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with offences relating to kidnapping, abducting, or inducing a woman to compel her marriage or other purposes.

Despite the arrest of the prime accused, the whereabouts of the woman is not yet known. Police sources said this is the most pressing concern at this stage, as Ahmed has reportedly not disclosed her current location. “We are still investigating if the woman is somewhere in Assam”, said a Guwahati police official.

Investigators also said a Muslim woman based in Noida is alleged to have assisted Ahmed at the time the victim went missing. Her exact role is still being examined. Ahmed has been taken to Noida by UP Police for further questioning, with the primary objective of locating the missing woman as soon as possible. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details are expected once the victim is traced and questioned.
