Mumbai Police file case against Reporter TV consulting editor over ‘city should catch fire’ comment during CJP protest

Mumbai Police have registered a case against Reporter TV Consulting Editor Arunkumar based on a complaint filed by Bajrang Dal. The case relates to remarks made during a discussion on the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest rally in Delhi on June 6, where his comments sparked allegations of encouraging unrest and violence.

The Mumbai Police have registered a case against Arunkumar, Consulting Editor of Reporter TV Malayalam, for allegedly making remarks that could incite violence. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Bajrang Dal.

The controversy relates to comments made by Arunkumar while covering the protest rally organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi on June 6. The protest, which had been widely publicised, witnessed a lower-than-expected turnout and failed to create the impact many had anticipated.

During a discussion on his channel, Arunkumar expressed regret for poor turn out and remarked that Delhi “did not catch fire” that evening. He said he was referring to a quote by a German playwright, who had written that a city should catch fire when young people take to the streets.

The complainants alleged that the remarks amounted to encouraging unrest and violence, leading to the registration of the case.

During the discussion, Arunkumar expressed disappointment that Delhi had not “caught fire” following the protests. He also remarked that no such incidents had occurred in major cities for more than a decade, a reference that appeared to point to the period of Narendra Modi’s rule. Critics argued that his comments reflected a desire to see future agitations escalate into unrest, rather than remain peaceful.

Bajrang Dal workers lodged a complaint against Arun at Charkop Police Station, Mumbai. The police initiated legal action on its basis.

Arunkumar is known for his comments against Hindutva, the BJP, the RSS and Narendra Modi. He has consistently opposed issues and initiatives associated with these organisations and individuals.

Earlier, Arun made an unwarranted and unnecessary comment against the vegetarian food served at the State School Youth Festival. He said that it was an attempt to impose Brahmanical supremacy and hegemony and that students should be given non-vegetarian food. His statement was an insult to culinary expert Pazhayidam Mohanan Namboothiri, who has been catering for the School Youth Festival for more than two decades.

After the issue became controversial, Pazhayidam said that he would no longer cook for the Kerala Youth Festival. Pazhayidam has been catering for the School Youth Festival since 2004. He has been feeding thousands of children during every youth festival and has been doing a flawless job from the very beginning.

The above incident is more than enough to establish that Arunkumar is basically a negative character. Otherwise, how can a man of common sense speak against vegetarian food without any rhyme or reason? Now, he wants CJP to create anarchy in the country. He was disappointed when the authorities handled the CJP agitation peacefully.
