Nehru’s Historic Record Broken After 72 Years
Following India’s independence, Jawaharlal Nehru led the country as the head of the interim government from 1947 to 1952. However, his tenure as a democratically elected Prime Minister is calculated from May 1952, following the first general election. Nehru’s record had stood for over seven decades.

While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s total tenure spanned approximately 14 years, it was not continuous.
