The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on June 10 approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) at Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,299.08 crore. The project will be executed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs through the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), with pre-bid activities already underway and tender documents currently being prepared.

The Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) is planned over an area of 5.53 acres in the New Capital City of Amaravati.

The project comprises two office blocks. One block on Plot C-9 will have Ground + 13 floors, including a ground floor for services, three floors for podium parking, and ten floors for office spaces. The second block on Plot C-8 will have Ground + 10 floors, comprising a ground floor for services, three floors for podium parking, and seven floors for office spaces.

The facility is designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 officials and staff members. Podium parking provision for around 1,800 Equivalent Car Spaces (ECS) has been proposed. The total built-up area of the project is 23,25,000 sq ft (2,16,032 sq m).

The project is part of the development of Amaravati as a Greenfield capital city envisioned as a world-class urban centre. According to the government, the objective is to address the growing demand for office accommodation for various Central Government departments by bringing them under one roof.

The government stated that the consolidation of offices is expected to improve inter-departmental coordination and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of services delivered by the Central Government in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed office complex is being planned and designed in accordance with the highest green building standards prevalent in India. The project aims to minimise environmental impact through sustainable site planning, energy efficiency measures, water conservation, the use of locally available materials, and improved occupant health and comfort.

The campus will be designed, constructed, and registered to achieve a minimum GRIHA 4-Star Rating and will comply with the latest provisions of the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024.

The CGGPOA campus will also include civic and community facilities such as a bank with ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, ladies’ room, conference hall with a seating capacity of 100, a multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 500, and four canteens for employees and visitors.

The campus will incorporate a barrier-free built environment to ensure accessibility, safety, and convenience for Divyangjan (Persons with Disabilities) in compliance with applicable accessibility norms and standards.

The project is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities. During the construction phase, employment generation is estimated at approximately 7,00,000 man-days per annum, while the operational phase is expected to generate around 50,000 man-days per annum.

The project will be funded by the Government of India through budgetary support under the Head of Account: 4059 – Capital Outlay on Public Works.

Recently, the Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, granting statutory status to Amaravati as the sole capital of the state. The Bill, which amends the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, providing permanent legal recognition to Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s capital.
