Jaipur: Authorities have placed Jaipur on high alert as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) launched a demolition drive involving the Noorani Mosque and four other religious structures in Malviya Nagar’s Nandpuri area. Around 3,000 additional police personnel, along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) units, have been deployed, while internet services have been suspended in parts of the city to maintain law and order.

The JDA commenced the operation on June 8 as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment and road-widening project aimed at expanding a key arterial road connecting Jagatpura to Jawahar Circle to a width of 80 feet. The planned action heightened tensions in the area, prompting authorities to enforce extensive security measures and restrictions across the city. Officials have established a multi-layered security arrangement around the affected locality and intensified surveillance ahead of the operation.

Police and district authorities had conducted a flag march in Malviya Nagar on June 7, while intensified patrolling continued across sensitive areas. Authorities said nearly 3,000 additional police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order and respond swiftly to any untoward incident. Officials are also closely monitoring social media platforms amid concerns that rumours, misinformation, or provocative content could disturb communal harmony.

As a precautionary measure, the administration suspended internet services across Jaipur North and Jaipur East police station areas from midnight on June 7 until midnight on June 9. Authorities have also enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), prohibiting gatherings of five or more persons. The restrictions will remain in force until June 22.

Security restrictions around the mosque area were significantly tightened from late Sunday night, with movement in the vicinity closely regulated. The entire Nandpuri locality was sealed from all sides, and residents were instructed to remain indoors while the operation was underway. No outsiders were permitted to enter the area. Officials warned that stringent legal action would be taken against anyone found spreading rumours, misinformation, or attempting to disturb public order.

According to the Jaipur Development Authority, the demolition drive is part of an ongoing road-widening project in the locality. The authority had previously issued notices to 143 properties falling within the project zone. On May 22, demolition was carried out on 134 residential structures.

Security Expanded Across Jaipur

As the demolition drive continued in Nandpuri, authorities expanded security arrangements to other sensitive parts of Jaipur. Heavy police deployment was reported across the Walled City (Parkota) area, including Ramganj, Badi Chaupar, and Chhoti Chaupar, as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and order throughout the city.

The administration has urged residents to maintain calm and avoid sharing unverified information. Officials said the extensive security arrangements were intended to ensure that the demolition drive proceeds peacefully and without disruption. They warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to spread rumours or disturb communal harmony.
