Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday sent a direct message to the infiltrators from the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. The message to infiltrators, drug smugglers, human traffickers and everyone else who thinks India’s borders are porous and unguarded is loud and clear. Bharat is building a fence they cannot cross. And it will be smarter, stronger and more advanced than anything before.
The smart border project:
Addressing BSF personnel at the Lankamura Border Outpost along the India-Bangladesh border in West Tripura district on Friday, Shah announced that the government is moving forward decisively on the Smart Border Project — an ambitious surveillance initiative equipped with drones, modern cameras and cutting-edge security technologies.

“The project will be implemented at 7 to 8 selective locations across different states where the BSF and SSB are currently deployed”, Home Minister Shah said.
The project is in its final stages of planning, the home minister added.
A pilot project will be launched next year. Once the pilot is evaluated and its gaps identified, the full-scale Smart Border Project will be rolled out across the country.
“Border security will be ensured in totality, not in a fragmented manner,” Shah said firmly.
Home Minister Shah reminded the brave jawans and officers of BSF that India’s border challenges today go far beyond conventional warfare.

“The country is battling a different kind of war — one being fought through drug smuggling, human trafficking, cattle smuggling, fake currency circulation and the abuse of narcotics among the youth”, the home minister said.
The borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, he noted, present unique and complex challenges. Arms and drugs are being dropped via drones. Infiltrators are slipping through. Human traffickers are operating with alarming impunity. All of this is being watched and it will be stopped, he mentioned.
No demographic change will be tolerated:
Home Minister Shah did not shy away from the most politically sensitive issue on the border agenda. He said in unequivocal terms that the Central Government will not tolerate demographic changes in West Bengal, Tripura and Bihar caused by illegal infiltration from across the border.
Steps are being taken to strengthen border management. The gaps in existing security arrangements are being identified and bridged — one by one, he said.
In one of the more moving moments of his address, Home Minister Shah paid a heartfelt tribute to the men and women of the BSF who guard India’s most sensitive and difficult borders — often in harsh terrain, extreme weather and constant danger.
He said the citizens of India appreciate the dedication, perseverance and commitment of BSF jawans — often more than they appreciate ministers and bureaucrats.
He also assured the personnel that the government is fully aware of the difficulties faced by them and their families. Several welfare measures have already been initiated, he said, and more are on the way.
Viksit Bharat, Secure Bharat:
Home Minister Shah placed the entire border security agenda within the larger framework of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat — a Developed India — by 2047. A developed nation, he said, cannot be built on insecure foundations.
“Before achieving complete development and fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision, it is essential to ensure a fully secure nation,” he said. Security is not a side agenda. It is the foundation on which everything else must be built, he added.
Tribute to Guruji:
At the start of his address, Home Minister Shah paused to pay tribute to Madhav Sadashivrao Golwalkar — widely revered as ‘Shri Guruji’ — the second Sarsanghchalak of the RSS, on his death anniversary.
He described Guruji as a man who gave his entire life to nation-building, character-building and the preservation of Indian culture — without ever seeking recognition or reward.

“Doing great work but never seeking recognition — he had immense dedication towards the development of the country, its security, culture, history, language and heritage,” Shah said.
He added that Guruji’s ideas of Swadeshi and national resurgence will continue to inspire generations of young Indians to put the nation first.
The event was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Secretary (Border Management) Rajendra Kumar, BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, and BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Alok Chakraborty.
