Hyderabad: Food Safety officials conducted an inspection at M/s Lulu Hypermarket in KPHB Colony following a complaint and detected multiple serious violations across the premises, including hygiene lapses, pest infestation, decayed vegetables, and labelling irregularities.
During the inspection of the in-house kitchen, officials observed poor hygiene conditions and the presence of pests. Leftover food stored in refrigerators was discarded on the spot. Decayed vegetables were also found, along with near-expiry packed food articles carrying torn and misleading labels.
In the retail section, officials detected insect infestation in besan flour, atta, and dals. They also identified packed food articles bearing expired FSSAI licences. Several labelling and display violations were noticed, including the absence of nutritional information, FSSAI licence details, and manufacturer addresses on food products.
In the butchering area, drains clogged with meat waste were found emitting a pungent smell, which officials said posed a serious public health concern.

As part of the action taken, approximately 150 kg of food articles, including sweets, oils, flour, and pulses affected by infestation, were seized and discarded. Food samples suspected of adulteration, excess artificial colour usage, and pest-infested besan flour were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.
Food Safety officials advised consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food products from retail outlets, supermarkets, bakeries, and eateries.
