Ahead of Wednesday’s (May 13, 2026) vote, leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin led a walkout of all the DMK MLAs, after giving a speech criticising the TVK government. He assailed Mr. Vijay for meeting AIADMK rebels on Wednesday (May 13, 2026), and questioned if what is happening is “change” or “exchange”.

Meanwhile, commotion also broke out in the House as rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani led all the rebel MLAs to vote in favour of TVK.

AIADMK declares Edappadi K Palaniswami (general secretary of the party) as the Legislative Party Leader and issues an official whip to all party MLAs to vote against the TVK government during the floor test The party has warned that any MLA who votes against the whip, abstains or remains neutral could face action under the anti-defection law and risk disqualification.

One of the netizens said, “TVK is set to prove its majority in the Assembly today, while the DMK is expected to abstain from the floor test. A faction of AIADMK MLAs led by SP Velumani is likely to vote in favour of Vijay. DMK calculates that abstaining from the floor test will help it retain its image as the main opposition party without looking desperate for power, while also avoiding responsibility for either toppling the government or helping it survive”.
