NEW DELHI: “The family values within British society also, it is not as it was in the past, they are also worried about it. These are universal issue now,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale in an exclusive interview with PTI’s CEO & Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi
Speaking about Western and Indian Values, Dattatreya ji stated, “We are becoming more and more westernized. Ultimately, it is a question of values, how human beings behave with other human beings, from their families to the wider community, and also how human beings behave with nature. These are the values and worldview that India has provided. Outward things such as dress, attire, and lifestyle may change, but what truly matters is respect for elders, keeping families together, being responsible towards the community, taking care of children, and inculcating values in the upcoming generation.”
When asked about what can be learnt from the West, Dattatreya ji said, “One thing I should say, this cleanliness, public discipline on roads, garbage etc, unfortunately in both England and America, it is on the decline, they are also worried about it. The family values within British society also, it is not as it was in the past, they are also worried about it. These are universal issue now. Certainly, they have also built a society, definitely there are things to learn from them, 100 years ago, Vivekananda was asked what is there to learn from them, he said organisation. He had told. Respecting elders, and the people who are pedestrians, the people who are driving a vehicle, in India, we think, bigger the vehicle, the road belongs to them, this should change. 1000-year-old disease cannot be cured in 10 years. We have to see that these things are inculcated through educational campuses, families, localities. Awareness has to be created about responsibilities towards environment. We can achieve, but it will take time.”
“Science is an instrument to understand spirituality; they are not at loggerheads; spirituality is not a hindrance for scientific advancement,” he further said.
