Thiruvananthapuram: A video circulating on social media shows Kerala Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan making an unusual claim regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, suggesting that the process may have contributed to the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) electoral performance in the state.

The video, posted on X (formerly Twitter), features Kuzhalnadan, a two-time legislator from Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district and a practising Supreme Court lawyer, stating that the SIR exercise helped remove a large number of “fake voters,” which he attributed to manipulation by the CPI(M).

‘SIR helped remove fake voters’: MLA’s claim

In the video, Kuzhalnadan is seen claiming that the electoral roll revision strengthened the UDF’s position.
According to the remarks attributed to him, he said the SIR process “removed a lot of fake voters” and suggested that this had an impact on the election outcome, allegedly benefiting the UDF in Kerala.
The commentary in the video references a decisive victory for the Congress-led UDF in the Kerala Assembly elections, with the following tally cited:

UDF: 102 seats
LDF: 35 seats
NDA: 3 seats
Total: 140 seats

The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has been a contentious issue, with several opposition parties across India alleging that such exercises could be used to influence voter lists unfairly. Leaders, including those from Congress and other regional parties, have previously raised concerns over its implementation. The MLA is also heard referencing large-scale deletion of allegedly “fake voters” in other states, including a claim of “95 lakh fake voters removed in Bengal.” These figures have not been independently substantiated in the video or accompanying statements.
