The Election Commission of India said its IT platform ECINET successfully countered over 68 lakh malicious hits on the counting day (May 4) of the General Elections to Legislative Assemblies and Bye-elections 2026, highlighting the role of cybersecurity protocols in protecting key election platforms, including the results portal.
According to the Election Commission, the malicious hits originated from both within India and overseas and targeted critical election-related digital infrastructure on May 4, 2026, when counting was underway.
ECINET recorded an average of 3 crore hits per minute on the counting day.
The Election Commission stated that ECINET played a central role in streamlining election processes through real-time monitoring, faster reporting and enhanced transparency.

On polling days held on April 9, 23 and 29, the platform recorded more than 98.3 crore hits.
Since its official launch in January 2026, the ECINET app has crossed 10 crore downloads. Its beta version was earlier used during the Bihar elections in November 2025.
The Commission also introduced a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system at counting centres across all States and Union Territories through ECINET to strengthen security arrangements.
More than 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated on counting day to ensure that only authorised personnel could enter counting venues and to prevent unauthorised access to counting centres.
