Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh: A 30-year-old journalist was killed in a suspected targeted attack in Chittoor district on April 28, prompting a police investigation and protests by media bodies.

The victim, K. Jaganmohan Reddy, a reporter with ABN Andhra Jyothy, (Telugu News Channel) was attacked around 6:00 AM while on a morning walk near the V. Kota–Palamaner road.

According to police, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle intercepted him and carried out the assault using sharp weapons.

Another journalist, Subrahmanyam of Prajasakti (Telugu Daily), who was present at the scene, sustained serious injuries while attempting to intervene and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Investigation and Suspect

Chittoor police have identified a local history-sheeter, Tameem alias Peter Tameem, as the prime suspect.

As part of the probe, police are investigating all angles, including any personal dispute and possible links to illegal activities such as red sandalwood smuggling.

Superintendent of Police Tishar Dudi confirmed that special teams have been deployed and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused. The state government has assured a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.

Protests and Demands

The Andhra Pradesh Journalists Forum, the Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation, and other media organisations strongly condemned the murder. They called for the immediate arrest of the accused and issued a call for state-wide protests. Police are investigating the reasons behind the killing.

Journalist associations in Chittoor and nearby Tirupati staged protests, calling for swift arrests and stronger legal safeguards for media professionals working in sensitive areas.
