Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh: A 30-year-old journalist was killed in a suspected targeted attack in Chittoor district on April 28, prompting a police investigation and protests by media bodies.
The victim, K. Jaganmohan Reddy, a reporter with ABN Andhra Jyothy, (Telugu News Channel) was attacked around 6:00 AM while on a morning walk near the V. Kota–Palamaner road.
According to police, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle intercepted him and carried out the assault using sharp weapons.
Another journalist, Subrahmanyam of Prajasakti (Telugu Daily), who was present at the scene, sustained serious injuries while attempting to intervene and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Investigation and Suspect
Chittoor police have identified a local history-sheeter, Tameem alias Peter Tameem, as the prime suspect.
As part of the probe, police are investigating all angles, including any personal dispute and possible links to illegal activities such as red sandalwood smuggling.
Authorities stated that the suspect, believed to have been operating from neighbouring Karnataka, is currently absconding. Multiple police teams have been formed, and coordination with Karnataka police is underway to trace those involved.

Superintendent of Police Tishar Dudi confirmed that special teams have been deployed and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused. The state government has assured a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.
Protests and Demands
The Andhra Pradesh Journalists Forum, the Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation, and other media organisations strongly condemned the murder. They called for the immediate arrest of the accused and issued a call for state-wide protests. Police are investigating the reasons behind the killing.
Journalist associations in Chittoor and nearby Tirupati staged protests, calling for swift arrests and stronger legal safeguards for media professionals working in sensitive areas.
