Former CM KCR’s daughter Kavitha floats new party “Telangana Rashtra Sena”, calls her father a changed man

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, formally announced the launch of a new regional political party named as “Telangana Rashtra Sena” in Hyderabad on April 25, 2026. The announcement comes amid her sustained criticism of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leadership, her suspension from the party, internal differences within the KCR family, and the broader direction of Telangana politics.

Kavitha stated that the new TRS party aims to revive what she described as the original spirit of the Telangana movement, positioning it as a people-centric alternative focused on inclusive welfare and self-sufficiency.

She comes with the promise of “TRS Panchajanyam”, which outlines key commitments including free education, free healthcare, recognition of the farmer as central to the state’s progress, creation of 4 lakh jobs, and the goal of building a socially inclusive Telangana.

Her political journey traces back to the Telangana statehood movement led by her father, who founded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2001 to campaign for a separate state. The movement culminated in the formation of Telangana on June 2, 2014.

In the same year, Kavitha entered electoral politics and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad. She lost the seat in 2019 and later moved to the Telangana Legislature as an MLC, first elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2021.

Alongside her political career, she established Telangana Jagruthi, a cultural organisation aimed at promoting the language, literature and traditions of Telangana.

However, her political trajectory faced a setback in 2022–23, when she was named as an accused in the Delhi liquor policy case investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.

She was arrested in 2024 and spent time in judicial custody. A trial court later acquitted her in 2025, but the acquittal has since been challenged, and the matter remains pending before higher courts.

These differences culminated in September 2025, when she was suspended by the BRS for alleged anti-party activities. Within a day of her suspension, she formally resigned from both the party and her MLC position on September 3, 2025, marking a decisive break from the organisation founded by her father.

She has now entered Telangana politics with a new political party; however, several allegations and controversies continue to surround her public and political trajectory.
