Bulldozer Action in Gujarat’s Jamnagar: Illegal farmhouse of Congress leader Altaf Khafi on govt land razed

Jamnagar authorities demolished an allegedly illegal farmhouse linked to Gujcotc accused and Congress candidate Altaf Khafi after he failed to comply with a prior notice. The action comes amid a wider crackdown, as both Congress and AAP field Gujcotc-accused candidates from the same municipal ward

Jamnagar: The local administration in Jamnagar demolished a farmhouse allegedly linked to Gujcotc accused Altaf Khafi, who is also contesting as a Congress candidate in the ongoing municipal elections. The action was carried out in the Bangla Wadi area after authorities found that the structure had encroached on nearly 1,200 square feet of government land.

Authorities said a notice had earlier been served to Altaf Khafi, directing him to remove the illegal construction. After he failed to comply within the stipulated time, the administration carried out a demolition drive using bulldozers. The operation was conducted under tight security, with senior police officials and a heavy deployment of personnel present at the site.

Altaf Khafi is currently in police custody. He was arrested earlier this month along with his associates and produced before a special court in Rajkot, which granted police remand until April 23. He is expected to be produced before the court again after the remand period ends.

Earlier, police had launched a major crackdown on the Altaf Khafi–Aslam Khilji gang under the Gujcotc Act. A total of 29 individuals have been booked in the case. While several have been arrested, others, including Abu Sufyan and Osman Khafi, remain absconding, with efforts underway to locate them. Officials have indicated that further action may follow, with more illegal properties linked to Altaf Khafi and his associates likely to be examined in the coming days.

AAP and Congress field Gujcotc-accused candidates from same ward

In a notable political development, both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have fielded candidates accused under the Gujcotc Act from the same ward in the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation elections.

Altaf Khafi is contesting from Ward No. 12 on a Congress ticket, while the AAP has nominated Aslam Khilji from the same ward. Both have previously served as corporators and are currently in judicial custody in connection with the same organised crime case.
