Raipur: A shocking incident has emerged from Santoshi Nagar area of Raipur, where a 19-year-old woman, Kavita Das, was found hanging at her boyfriend Mahfooz Khan’s house on the night of April 19, 2026. The case has triggered tension in the locality, with serious allegations raised by the victim’s family.

According to initial information, Kavita had gone to meet Mahfooz Khan at his residence on the evening but did not return home. Concern grew when repeated attempts to contact her failed.

The situation escalated the following morning when locals tried to open the door of the house but received no response. Suspicious, they peeped through a window and spotted Kavita hanging inside.

The door was subsequently broken open, but by the time she was brought down, she had already died. Police were informed immediately, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police officials stated that based on preliminary findings, the case is currently being treated as a suspected suicide. However, they have clarified that all angles, including foul play, are being thoroughly investigated.

Statements of neighbours and potential witnesses have been recorded, and forensic evidence is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events on the night of the incident.

Kavita’s family has strongly rejected the suicide theory, alleging that she was subjected to continuous harassment by Mahfooz Khan. According to them, he had been pressuring her for marriage (nikah), which caused severe mental distress.

The family has accused Mahfooz of physical abuse as well, claiming that he used to assault Kavita and allegedly broadcast such incidents on Instagram Live, leading to further trauma.

A purported video showing assault has surfaced, intensifying suspicions around the circumstances of Kavita’s death. While the authenticity of the video is yet to be officially confirmed, it has become a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.

Given the sensitivity of the case and the allegations involved, Raipur Police have taken Mahfooz Khan into custody. He is currently being interrogated to determine what transpired on the night of April 19.

Officials have stated that a detailed investigation is underway, and further action will be based on forensic reports and evidence collected during the probe.
