Sangh Shatabdi & Swarn Smriti: A century of nation-building and the resurgence of ‘Swa’

The founding of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) was not merely the birth of an organization; it was a civilizational clarion call. It marked the beginning of a profound spiritual and psychological decolonization of the Hindu mind. As we stand at the threshold of the centenary year (2025-26), this "Swarn Smriti"(Golden Memory) is not just a retrospective of the past; it is a blueprint for the "Bharat of the 21st Century"

On the auspicious day of Vijayadashami in 1925, in the modest surroundings of Mohite Wada in Nagpur, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar sowed a seed that was destined to become the world’s largest voluntary movement. The founding of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) was not merely the birth of an organization; it was a civilizational clarion call. It marked the beginning of a profound spiritual and psychological decolonization of the Hindu mind. As we stand at the threshold of the centenary year (2025-26), this “Swarn Smriti”(Golden Memory) is not just a retrospective of the past; it is a blueprint for the “Bharat of the 21st Century.”

The psychology of colonization and the Hedgewar vision

In pre-independence India, while the political discourse was largely confined to the transfer of power, Dr. Hedgewar delved deeper into the root cause of India’s decline. He realized that India’s true subjugation was not geographical but psychological. Centuries of foreign invasions had fragmented the Hindu society, leaving it self-oblivious and riddled with internal fissures.

The core objective of the RSS was to create an indomitable national character. Dr. Hedgewar recognized that the security of a nation rests more on the ‘character’ of its society than on its standing armies. The Shakha (the daily gathering) became the sacred crucible where the narrow ‘I’ (Ego) was transmuted into the collective ‘We’ (Vayam), becoming an offering for the Nation-Deity.

2. The Centenary Journey: From obscurity to global eminence

The journey of the last 100 years has been one of unprecedented trials. From the stings of repeated bans to the onslaught of ideological untouchability and malicious propaganda, the RSS has emerged stronger. This “Swarn Smriti” is a saga of millions of anonymous Swayamsevaks who sacrificed their personal ambitions to serve the national cause.

From a single Shakha in Nagpur to a presence in every nook and corner of Bharat, the growth of the Sangh is a testament to the fact that ‘Truth’ can be suppressed but never defeated. The RSS has proven that an organization is not just a structure but a ‘Living Idea’ that progresses from individual transformation to national reconstruction.

Social Harmony: The ultimate weapon of national security

In the current global scenario, external forces and vested interests are once again attempting to fragment Bharat using the “Divide and Rule” narrative based on caste and regional identities. My work, “Sangh Shatabdi: Swarn Smriti”, emphasizes that Samarasata(Social Harmony) is not a political compromise or a superficial gesture; it is the original DNA of our Sanatan Dharma.

Dr. Hedgewar and subsequently Shri Guruji and all Sarsanghchalaks, taught that as long as the ‘Pride of Caste’ exists in the Hindu heart, the ‘Glory of the Nation’ will remain incomplete. The day the last person in society feels he is an inseparable part of this vast Hindu family, the map of Akhand Bharat will manifest on earth. A harmonious society is the only key to a powerful nation, and the RSS has been practicing this ‘Inherent Unity’ for a century.

Awakening of ‘Swa’ and contemporary challenges

As Bharat navigates through the Amrit Kaal, the challenges have become global and subtle. Today, the war is fought on the ‘Intellectual Front.’ Distorting our history, labeling our traditions as ‘regressive’, and uprooting the youth from their cultural moorings is a planned ideological invasion.

As an educationist, I firmly believe that the time has come to become ‘Intellectual Kshatriyas'(Warriors of Knowledge). We must establish a synergy between Technology and Tilak, Science and Vedanta, and Capability and Culture. The centenary journey of the Sangh teaches us that Swadeshi is not just the boycott of foreign goods, but a return to our own intellect, our own languages and our own life values.

The Path Forward: 101 steps of Rashtra-Sadhana

In my analysis, the “101 Steps of Nation Building” serve as a guiding light for a Swayamsevak’s life journey. Service, discipline, self-study, and surrender—it is by walking these steps that we can fulfill the dream of a ‘Param Vaibhavshali Bharat’ (Supreme Glorious India). Today, Swayamsevaks are active on every front—from education and rural development to disaster management and national security. This discipline is the true capital of the Sangh.

The Clarion Call: Towards the golden dawn

The centenary year is not just a time for celebration; it is a time for introspection and re-dedication. We are indebted to the ‘Rishi-Rin'(debt to our sages and ancestors) left behind by Dr. Hedgewar and the thousands of Pracharaks who gave their lives for the cause. The goal for the next 25 years is clear: to reinstate Bharat at the economic, spiritual, and strategic pinnacle of the world.

“Sangh Shatabdi: Swarn Smriti” is not merely a historical document; it is a spiritual convocation of national duty. The resolution of Rashtra-Sadhana has not stopped; it is the sound of our footsteps marching towards an ‘Akhand Bharat.’ Standing at this turn of the century, every Swayamsevak takes this oath: ”Tera Vaibhav Amar Rahe Maa, Hum Rahen Na Rahen”(May Thy Glory remain immortal, O Mother, whether we live or not.).

The dream of an undivided and glorious Bharat is no longer just a fantasy; it is a fast-approaching reality. Let us imbibe this golden memory into our conduct and burn as fuel in this great sacrifice of national resurgence.
