BJP Rajya Sabha Member and OBC Morcha National President Dr K. Laxman said that bringing constitutional amendments giving greater political priority to women during the Parliament special sessions is a historic decision taken by the Narendra Modi government. He stated that women across the country are happy with this decision.

Speaking to the media in Delhi, he mentioned several key issues. Laxman strongly condemned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s proposal to carry out delimitation of constituencies based on Telangana state income (GSDP).

“Is this even the official policy of the Congress party? Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge must speak on this,” he demanded. He mocked that delimitation is always done based on population census, and doing it based on income is against the Constitution, and the whole country is laughing at such an idea.

Congress striking at Ambedkar’s ideals:

Laxman criticised that Congress is piercing the principle of “one person – one vote – one value” stated by B. R. Ambedkar. He reminded that the spirit of the Constitution is that the value of a vote should be equal for all without differences of rich, poor, caste, religion, or region.

He clarified that as per Articles 81, 82, and 170 of the Constitution, population figures are the basis, and allocating seats based on GSDP, which is nowhere in the world, is illegal. He said this is a dangerous idea that will change democracy from “for the people” to “for money.”

No injustice to southern states:

He rejected the campaign that delimitation will cause injustice to southern states. “We are still continuing seats based on the 1971 population census. But the population has increased from 54 crores to 140 crores.

At present, each MP represents nearly 25 lakh people. This must change. When the number of seats increases, seats will increase in all states; no one’s share will reduce,” Dr K. Laxman explained.

Congress double standards towards women:

Laxman criticised that Congress is playing drama on women’s reservations. He alleged that only if the number of seats increases, more women will get opportunities through 33% reservations, but Congress is trying to restrict to the old 543 seats and suppress women’s opportunities. He said that if seats increase, representation for SCs and STs will also increase, which Congress is blocking.
