In a shocking incident reported from the Pal area of Surat, a gym trainer identified as Sabir Ansari has been arrested for allegedly luring a married woman into a relationship, sexually exploiting her, and later attempting to extort money using objectionable videos.

According to police, the accused reportedly developed contact with the woman, who regularly visited the gym, and gradually trapped her in a relationship. He is accused of sexually exploiting her and recording private videos without her consent. These videos were then allegedly used to blackmail the victim and her family.

The matter came to light after the woman’s husband discovered the alleged exploitation and threats. He subsequently approached the police and filed a formal complaint against the accused. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Surat City Police, along with the SOG team, arrested the gym trainer and initiated legal proceedings.

Police officials confirmed that the accused had demanded Rs 5 lakh from the victim’s husband, threatening to make the videos public if the money was not paid. The arrest was made to prevent further harassment and to secure digital evidence related to the case.

This incident has once again highlighted concerns around safety in seemingly routine spaces like gyms, where trust is often misused. Similar patterns have been observed in multiple recent cases across the country.

Notably, this case draws parallels with the recent Amravati case in Maharashtra, which has sent shockwaves nationwide due to its scale and brutality. In that case, a 19-year-old accused was arrested for allegedly targeting a large number of girls, including minors, by luring them through social media and personal contact. He reportedly sexually exploited the victims, recorded the acts without consent, and used the footage for blackmail. Investigators revealed that hundreds of obscene videos were circulated across platforms like WhatsApp and Snapchat, with the number of victims estimated to be over 180.

The Amravati Rural Police, under the supervision of senior officials, launched a large-scale investigation and appealed to victims to come forward, assuring confidentiality and legal support.

Authorities are also probing whether the case involves a larger organised network, as multiple digital trails and patterns of exploitation have emerged. The reluctance of victims to file complaints due to fear and social stigma has remained a major challenge in the investigation, further underlining the seriousness and complexity of such crimes.
