Special Cell of Delhi Police detained a suspect from Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh over alleged terror links. The accused, identified as Rizwan Ahmad, is a resident of the Chhawani locality in Padrauna town.

According to officials, Ahmad’s name surfaced during an ongoing terror-related investigation being handled by the Special Cell, prompting swift action.

Late-night operation, devices seized

A 10-member Special Cell team led by Inspector Nishant Dahiya reached Padrauna late Saturday evening. Acting in coordination with local police, the team detained Ahmad and transported him to Delhi for further questioning.

During the operation, officials seized electronic devices including a mobile phone and laptop. Investigators believe these devices could yield crucial digital evidence, including communication trails and potential links to suspicious networks.

No local case, but vigilance intensified

Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar confirmed that no case has been registered against Ahmad at the local level so far.

However, authorities have initiated background verification, collecting details about his family, social connections, and past activities. Security has also been heightened across the district given the sensitive nature of the case.

Police sources revealed that Ahmad had previously travelled to Mumbai nearly a decade ago in search of work. He was later arrested in a separate terror-related case and remained in jail between 2017 and 2023.

During that investigation, explosives were reportedly recovered from his residence, and phone records allegedly indicated international communications. Investigators had also suspected links with the terror outfit ISIS.

Officials stated that the current investigation is at a crucial stage, with digital forensics and interrogation expected to provide more clarity on Ahmad’s alleged role and connections. Further revelations are likely as the Special Cell continues its probe.
