The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday issued a clarification rejecting reports that suggested changes in LPG refill booking timelines. The Ministry stated that several social media posts and news reports claiming revised booking intervals were incorrect and misleading.
“It has come to the notice of the Government that certain news reports and social media posts are claiming revised LPG refill booking timelines,” the Ministry said, adding that no such changes have been approved.
Reiterating the current norms, the government confirmed that the minimum gap between two LPG refill bookings remains: 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas.
These timelines apply uniformly to all consumers, including beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana as well as non-PMUY users, regardless of whether they have single or double cylinder connections.
“It is clarified that no such changes have been made. The existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged,” the Ministry emphasised.
The clarification comes after viral claims suggested different booking intervals, such as 45 days for PMUY users, 25 days for single-cylinder consumers, and 35 days for double-cylinder users. These claims led to confusion and concerns among households about possible restrictions.
Officials have now categorically dismissed these reports, calling them baseless.
With misinformation spreading rapidly, the government has issued a strong advisory urging citizens not to engage in panic booking of LPG cylinders.
“Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate such misinformation and to avoid unnecessary or panic booking of LPG refills,” the Ministry said in its statement.
The government has also reassured consumers that there is no shortage of LPG supply in the country. Officials stated that adequate stocks are available to meet the existing demand, and there is no need for concern.
This assurance comes amid global uncertainties affecting fuel supply chains, but authorities have maintained that domestic availability remains stable.
The Centre has highlighted the importance of relying on official communication and avoiding unverified information circulating online. It stressed that false claims not only create confusion but can also disrupt the supply chain by triggering unnecessary demand spikes.
The government’s clarification seeks to put an end to speculation around LPG booking rules. With no changes in timelines and sufficient stock availability, consumers have been advised to continue normal usage patterns and avoid panic-driven decisions.
