Sahibganj: A case of alleged love jihad and forced religious conversion has emerged from the Rajmahal police station area in Sahibganj district, Jharkhand. Based on the statement of a Hindu woman, the police have registered a case and arrested Shahid Anwar.
According to the police, Shahid had been in a relationship with the woman for some time. She stated that he introduced himself as “Tony” and claimed to be Hindu. Later, he reportedly took her to Delhi, where they married at an Arya Samaj temple according to Hindu rituals.
The woman told police that after a period, Shahid revealed his true identity as a Muslim and pressured her to convert to Islam. She alleged that he took her to a Maulvi, asked her to wear a burqa, and forced her to offer namaz. She also claimed to have faced mental harassment when she refused to comply.
She reportedly managed to return home on March 16. The next day, the accused allegedly came to her house, misbehaved with her mother, and tried to forcibly take her away. When she resisted, he is said to have threatened her life.
Police stated that they are examining all aspects of the case, and further action will be taken based on the evidence.
