The escalating conflict between Israel-US axis and Iran sees no sign of de-escalation and peace. Amidst such a precarious scenario, India has extended humanitarian assistance to the country at war. New Delhi has sent medical aid to Iran. Thus the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi wrote, “The first shipment of medical aid from the esteemed people of India has been delivered to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. We sincerely thank the kind people of India”.

The humanitarian assistance by India to the war-torn Iran reflects the nature of foreign policy ecosystem adopted in India, that gives utmost priority to the humanitarian deeds and well-being of the common people. Humanity-first approach is the policy of India, beyond geopolitical interests or hegemonic ambitions. On March 18, Wednesday, as the medical aid sent from India reached Iran, the Embassy in New Delhi expressed its gratitude. Iran is entangled in a major conflict with the US-Israel axis and the war is indeed having massive repercussions across West Asia.

According to the Ambassador of Iran in the United Nations(UN) since the war broke out on February 28, more than 1,300 people have been killed and more than 7,000 people have been critically injured. Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation(WHO) also reported that the strikes have attacked nearly 18 healthcare centres across the country and 8 medical personnel have been killed. The WHO is also planning to send emergency medical contingencies to Iran as the war escalates and casualties are spiking.

Iran embassy also shared video clips of the medical aid from India arriving at Iran and being recieved and distributed by the rescue workers. Humanitarian assistance is the key pillar of India’s foreign policy. New Delhi is the first responder in the region during any emergencies or unforseen contingencies. The hmanitarian aid of India is meant towards global well-being and safety & security of the common people, It is beyond political ideologies and gepolitical calculations. For example, recently, when Sri Lanka was hit by a massive cyclone, India launched Operation Sagarbandhu and supplied humanitarian assistance in terms of basic amenities, medical aid, infrastructure redevelopment etc.
