Raebareli: Tension gripped parts of Raebareli after alleged vandalism at three Mandirs in Jalalpur Dhai village, under the Gadaganj police station limits, sparked concern among local residents. According to police sources, unidentified miscreants targeted a Shiva Mandir, a Hanuman Mandir, and the Harshakani Devi Mandir, damaging murtis and disrupting the sanctity of the shrines.
Locals reported that the attackers not only vandalised the murtis but also scattered worship materials within the Mandir premises. In a particularly disturbing act, the murti of Radha Rani was found displaced from its designated place, while a Mandir bell was reported stolen. The incident quickly spread anxiety in the village, prompting authorities to step in to prevent any escalation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Sinha rushed to the spot with a heavy police contingent soon after receiving information. A detailed inspection was carried out, and officials assured residents that strict action would be taken against those responsible. Police have since launched a probe, examining local CCTV footage and questioning suspects to identify the culprits. Security has been tightened in the area to maintain peace.
Earlier in 2023, murtis were found vandalised at a Mandir in Meerut, leading to protests by local residents before police intervened and arrested suspects. Similarly, in Varanasi, instances of desecration and theft at smaller shrines have been reported over the years, prompting increased surveillance around religious sites. In another case from Mathura, Mandir property was damaged by miscreants, triggering a swift police response and heightened security in the area.
