Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrive in Assam on a two-day visit just ahead of the assembly election. The PM will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of many development projects during his visit. Welcoming the PM to Assam, the state BJP said, “The BJP-led NDA Government, while steadfastly preserving the continuity of comprehensive and inclusive development, continues to bring a steady stream of positive and transformative news for the people of Assam. Today, the banner of progress and prosperity is flying high in every sphere of the state.”

Over the past ten years, Assam has witnessed a remarkable transformation in its infrastructure landscape. Working day and night to turn the aspirations of the people of Assam into reality, the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has led this relentless march of development. The principal guiding force behind CM Sarma’s visionary journey is none other than the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the NDA Government has illuminated the North-East with renewed prominence on the national map of development.

BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi remarked that the long-standing perception, nurtured over decades, that “the Centre views Assam with step-motherly indifference” has been decisively disproved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Breaking away from that outdated narrative, Prime Minister Modi has accorded unprecedented priority to Assam and the entire North-Eastern region. Since assuming office as the Prime Minister of India, he has visited Assam more than forty times, which indeed stands as an extraordinary and historic political phenomenon for the state.

Following the formation of the NDA Government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a massive public rally at Kokrajhar on March 13. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the people of BTC developmental projects worth Rs 4,574 crore and inaugurate several key initiatives. These include road construction projects worth Rs 1,100 crore, as well as the flagging-off of three new train services—Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Narengi–Agartala Express, and Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express.

Under Assam Mala 3.0, projects involving 883 kilometres of roads and 36 new bridges, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 3,217 crore, will also be launched. Notably, during the programme to be held in Guwahati on 13 March, developmental projects worth approximately Rs 8,841 crore will be inaugurated or dedicated to the public. These projects include the Furkating–Tinsukia railway double-line project with an expenditure of Rs 3,633 crore, the electrification of the Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh railway line costing Rs 1,180 crore, and the Rangiya–Murkongselek railway electrification project costing Rs 421 crore.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the ropeway project from Kamakhya Railway Station to Kamakhya Mandir, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 210 crore, inaugurate the Ekta Mall at Betkuchi in Guwahati, and dedicate the Kapili Hydroelectric Project, built with an investment of Rs 2,320 crore. On 14 March, as part of the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Guwahati–Silchar Express Highway, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 22,864 crore.

Furthermore, fulfilling a significant electoral commitment, the Prime Minister will ceremonially initiate the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers of Assam during a solemn and historic programme to be held in Guwahati on 13 March, symbolising the government’s unwavering commitment to social justice and the welfare of the tea-tribe community.
