Keralam: SC’s 7-day relief turns into a celebration for ex-CM Pinarayi in CMRL-Exalogic case; BJP alleges Congress plot

BJP leaders Shon George and K. Surendran said the Supreme Court’s October 21 ruling had not cancelled the FIR in the CMRL-Exalogic case, describing the seven-day stay on the Vigilance inquiry as temporary relief and accusing the Congress and CPM of protecting Pinarayi Vijayan.

BJP leader Adv. Shon George alleged that the CM V.D. Satheeshan-led UDF government had tried to sabotage the CMRL-Exalogic case. Referring to the Supreme Court’s ruling on October 21, he said that the apex court had only ruled that the accused should be heard by the High Court Division Bench within a week. He said that the pro-Pinarayi brigade had no reason to celebrate the ruling.

The Supreme Court, on October 21, temporarily stayed the Vigilance inquiry against Pinarayi Vijayan, Veena Vijayan and her husband, P.A. Mohammed Riyas, for a week.

Adv. Shon George added that the Supreme Court ruling did not stop the Vigilance inquiry or the FIR.

The Court had taken the stand that the accused should also be heard. The state government followed a policy of helping Pinarayi, Veena and Mohammed Riyas.

Shon George alleged that the Congress leadership including CM was trying to sabotage the case at the behest of Rahul Gandhi. As a quid pro quo, CPM general secretary M.A. Baby was in no mood to criticise Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trip amid the Delhi agitation.

He pointed out that both the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the opposition CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) were birds of the same feather with regard to former CM Pinarayi’s case.

In fact, CPM general secretary M.A. Baby justified Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trip. He criticised the BJP for attacking Rahul Gandhi over his foreign trip. He alleged that the BJP was creating confusion among the people regarding Rahul’s foreign trip. He reportedly said that there was nothing wrong with Rahul’s foreign trip.

The BJP had alleged that Rahul Gandhi stayed aloof from important Lok Sabha sessions and that there was no clarity regarding his foreign trips. M.A. Baby’s reaction came amid discussions concerning Rahul Gandhi’s current trip to Vietnam.

In fact, the Vigilance inquiry has been stayed for seven days. The FIR has not been cancelled and will stand. The apex court permitted Pinarayi and his family members to approach the High Court Division Bench and file an appeal within a week.

However, in Keralam, pro-Pinarayi and anti-ED media outlets are celebrating the court ruling in a boisterous mood. They give the impression that the ED is at the receiving end. They forget that what the accused have obtained is ‘seven-day relief’. None can predict the verdict of the High Court Division Bench.

BJP national secretary K. Surendran said that the Supreme Court had not given any concession to Pinarayi and his family. The Supreme Court had not cancelled the FIR. What Pinarayi got was one week to be heard by the Division Bench of the High Court. The Supreme Court’s serious question to the state government regarding the reason for not registering the FIR justified the claim that the state government was trying to sabotage the case.

Surendran said that the law would take its own course. He expressed confidence that the guilty would be brought before the law. The apex court ruling gave neither the Congress nor the CPM any reason to chuckle.
