“Why Are LDF, UDF Silent?”: BJP Chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar Slams Kerala MLAs on Iran Attacks, Alleges Islamist Links

Both political fronts in Kerala are allied with radical Islamist outfits such as Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI, a factor that has prevented Congress and CPM MLAs from speaking up for the interests of all Malayalees, with critics alleging their primary concern remains protecting vote banks

“Why Are LDF, UDF Silent?”: BJP Chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar Slams Kerala MLAs on Iran Attacks, Alleges Islamist Links

Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has launched a sharp attack on both the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing Kerala’s entire political establishment of maintaining a “deafening silence” on Iran’s attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are the home to nearly one crore Keralites. Questioning why none of the state’s 140 MLAs have spoken up for expatriate Malayalis and their families amid rising tensions in the Gulf, Chandrasekhar alleged that vote-bank politics and political ties with fundamentalist groups have taken precedence over the safety and interests of Keralites abroad.

He pointed out that while all 140 MLAs belong to these two fronts, not a single one has spoken out against the attacks on GCC nations, where nearly one crore Keralites live and work. According to him, no MLA has expressed solidarity with these millions of expatriates and their families back home, who are spending anxious days amid the escalating tensions.

There are 140 LDF and UDF MLAs in Keralam. Yet, as Iran continues to attack GCC countries, not a single one is speaking up or expressing solidarity with the millions of Malayalees living and working there and their anxious families back home.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar questioned the reason for this silence. He alleged that the “unholy alliance” of both fronts with fundamentalist organisations such as Jamaat-e-Islami and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) prevents the LDF and UDF from standing up for the interests of all Keralites. Their priority, he said, is to protect their vote banks.

The BJP leader added that “enough is enough” and described the current political leadership as weak and ineffective. He said it was time to begin a change, asserting that the BJP and the NDA are the only alliance with a clear vision and political will to create a “Surakshit Keralam”, where every Keralite will feel safe both at home and abroad. He expressed hope that people would initiate this change.

Political observers note that both the LDF and the UDF have often been cautious in their approach towards Muslim organisations such as Jamaat-e-Islami, PFI and SDPI. Critics argue that this caution stems from their attempts to retain minority vote banks, which in turn makes them reluctant to openly criticise these groups. As a result, some argue, the concerns of Keralites working in GCC countries risk being overlooked in the political discourse.
