Keralam: Rajeev Chandrasekhar shares CJP Sourav Das–Umar Khalid photo, urges students to choose leaders wisely

BJP Keralam state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a social media post on July 29, urged citizens to remain vigilant about the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), stating that regardless of who they are or what name they use, those attempting to undermine national integration must be opposed. He shared a photograph of CJP leader Sourav Das with 2020 Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid, who is currently in jail.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar also shared an X post by Sourav Das in which the latter described Umar Khalid’s imprisonment as “an utter blot on the Indian judicial system”.

Referring to the ongoing student protests led by the CJP, Chandrasekhar said students and their parents should recognise what he termed the party’s larger agenda and remain cautious.

To the many genuine students and their parents who protested with their genuine grievances – take a look at this pic and its msg.

And choose who you are with wisely.🙏🏻

— Rajeev Chandrasekhar 🇮🇳 (@RajeevRC_X) July 29, 2026

His remarks come amid the continuing controversy over the CJP-led protests. The Supreme Court recently observed that any proposed independent probe into the violence must examine not only allegations of police excesses but also attacks on police personnel, stressing that “the truth has to come out”.

While the Court protected peaceful protesters from coercive action, it declined to halt investigations into incidents of violence and indicated that accountability must be fixed wherever wrongdoing is established.

According to the Delhi Police, Umar Khalid is an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case and has been in judicial custody under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

In his post, Chandrasekhar wrote that “the fools who attempt to divide and ruin Bharat claim to be shaping your future”.

Referring to those who had joined the protests over what he acknowledged as legitimate grievances, he urged them to carefully consider the forces they were aligning with.

He said such “sinister designs” must be identified and rejected, adding that irrespective of the organisation’s name, anyone attempting to weaken the unity and integrity of the country should be opposed. He described it as the duty of every citizen of Bharat.

He alleged that certain ideological groups were attempting to divide and weaken India while claiming to shape the future of the country’s youth.

He further said it was the duty of every Indian to oppose anyone attempting to undermine the country’s democracy, unity and integrity, irrespective of the circumstances. He added that India had progressed too far as a nation to allow such forces to weaken or destabilise it.

Umar Khalid is a key accused in the larger conspiracy case related to the 2020 Delhi riots and has been in judicial custody under the UAPA since September 2020. While refusing him bail in January 2026, the Supreme Court observed that the case was not merely a protest that went wrong but a conspiracy, and held that the prosecution material disclosed a prima facie case of a larger conspiracy behind the violence.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s caution to students and parents comes against the backdrop of CJP leader Sourav Das publicly expressing support for Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid. He also shared a photograph of Das with Khalid, who is a key accused in the larger conspiracy case related to the 2020 Delhi riots and has been in judicial custody under UAPA.

Recently, former Delhi Police Commissioner S.N. Srivastava and other security experts argued that the 2020 Delhi riots should be viewed not merely as a law-and-order incident, but as part of a broader pattern of regime-change attempts and information warfare, reinforcing Chandrasekhar’s appeal for students and parents to choose their leaders wisely and remain vigilant about organisations seeking to influence public protests.
