Violation of presidential protocol & obstruction in programme by Mamata Govt an affront to democratic norms: ABVP

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly criticised the Government of West Bengal over alleged administrative lapses during the recent visit of the Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, to the state. The student organisation claimed that adequate arrangements in accordance with the dignity and protocol of the President were not ensured during her participation in the 9th International Santhal Conference organised by members of the Santhal community

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) strongly condemns the administrative lapses and mismanagement by the Government of West Bengal during the visit of the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to the state. The incident occurred in connection with the ‘9th International Santhal Conference’ organised by members of the Santhal community, where appropriate arrangements in accordance with the dignity and protocol of the President were not ensured.

In a democratic system like India, such mismanagement in an event involving the First Citizen of the country is extremely unfortunate and amounts to an affront to the spirit of the nation. The failure to adhere to established protocol during the visit of the Hon’ble President reflects the negligence and administrative indifference of the Mamata Government. This episode further exposes the West Bengal government’s insensitive attitude towards the tribal community as well as women.

This incident will remain recorded as a blot in India’s political history, where the President of the country, who herself belongs to a tribal community, was not provided with an appropriate venue for attending the International Santhal Conference. As a result, the programme venue reportedly had to be changed four times. It is deeply unfortunate that the President of India had to face such obstacles in her own country while attending an event of the Santhal community. The administrative disorder under the Mamata Government is well known, and this incident once again highlights its anti-tribal and anti-women character. ABVP strongly condemns this act.

ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki stated:
“ This incident is a grave blow to the conscience of Indian democracy. The Mamata Government’s anti-women and authoritarian attitude is well known. When a woman from the tribal community was elected to the highest constitutional office of the country, the entire nation celebrated that moment with pride. However, the developments in West Bengal today, where a suitable venue was not provided for her participation in the Santhal Conference and obstacles were created in her programme, clearly indicate that the Mamata Government has allowed political prejudice and hostility to override its sense of responsibility. ABVP strongly condemns this act.”
