Bharat GI Coffee
The Bharat GI Coffee Lounge has been set up at Bharat Mandapam (Hall 14, First Floor) from February 17 to 20 as part of the broader Bharat GI initiative launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Earlier, while promoting the initiative, Goyal referred to Bharat GI as a national umbrella intellectual property and called it “A World Exclusive.”
The lounge became a place where India’s tradition and modern technology came together. GI products, digital payment systems like UPI, and AI ideas were all symbolically present in one space. It showed how India is combining its heritage with advanced technology and becoming a strong product-based nation.
Sundar Pichai’s Keynote
Earlier at Bharat Mandapam, Sundar Pichai gave a keynote speech. He spoke about his student days and travelling on the Coromandel Express from Chennai to IIT Kharagpur. He also remembered Visakhapatnam as a quieter city with great potential.
He compared his past memories with the present situation. He announced that Google will set up a full AI hub in Visakhapatnam as part of a $15 billion investment in India.
This hub will have very large computing power and a new international undersea cable connection. It will help make Visakhapatnam an important global AI center and strengthen India’s position in the world technology sector.
‘Bharat GI’ Initiative Launched to Globalise Indian Products
“Bharat GI” is a national brand initiative. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced its launch on X. He said that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) introduced the brand to promote India’s traditional products globally.
The initiative is presented as “A World Exclusive.” Its aim is to give GI-tagged products international recognition and help position them as premium products in the global market.
At the summit, Indian GI Coffee is presented as the first product under the Bharat GI brand. Visitors can taste and experience the unique aroma and flavour of India’s traditional coffee. The government believes Bharat GI will help increase exports of certified regional products. It also aims to protect traditional knowledge and support local producers and communities.
The five-day summit, underway from February 16 to 20, focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence for shared global growth under the pillars of People, Planet and Progress.
