GUWAHATI: Miya people shouldn’t be allowed to vote in Assam; they should go and vote in Bangladesh, said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a government program in Duliajan, CM Sarma said that when the SIR of the voter list is done in Assam, at least 4-5 Miya voters must be deleted from the voter list. “ Congress can criticise me as much as they wish, but my job is to make the Miya people suffer”, CM Sarma said. He further added that if they don’t get some harassment, they will come and invade Upper Assam also. No Assamese people are suffering for the SR of the voter list, some Miya people are suffering, and we shouldn’t border on that, he said. Attacking the Congress party, CM Sarma said, the party has now turned into a Miya-Muslim party.
Reacting to the opposition parties’ accusations that BJP leaders are interfering in the Special Revision (SR) of the voter list, CM Sarma boldly said he has instructed BJP men to file complaints against the Miya people. “ We should make sure that the Miya people suffer and then only they will understand that the Assamese people are awake now.” He said everybody should trouble them to make them realise that this place doesn’t belong to them. If they suffer, then only they will leave Assam. “Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP are always against Miya; there is nothing to hide or hesitate. They have already reached some pockets of upper Assam and if we don’t make them suffer, they won’t leave.” He warned media personnel against airing sympathetic coverage of the Miya community’s sufferings, cautioning that it could lead to “love jihad” targeting their own family members.
Meanwhile, state BJP president MP Dilip Saikia said that Congress and Miya are two sides of a coin. He said they don’t have any concern about the culture, heritage, and security of the indigenous people. Congress party’s only concern is Muslim appeasement.
