LUCKNOW: Rahul Gandhi UK Citizenship Case is likely to see an end on January 28. The case is being heard by the 3rd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) and Special Judge (MP-MLA), Alok Verma who will pronounce the final verdict. The petition has been filed by S. Vignesh Shishir, invoking provisions under Sections 173(4) read with 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Petitioner S Vignesh Shishir has sought directions from the court for the registration of an FIR at Kotwali Police Station in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The plea names Rahul Gandhi, the sitting Member of Parliament from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, and cites multiple sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Official Secrets Act, 1923, the Passports Act, 1967, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.

Among the provisions referenced in the petition are sections related to alleged offences concerning sovereignty, public order, legal compliance, and citizenship status. The plea also raises issues connected to what has been described as a “British citizenship issue,” which forms a central aspect of the case.

This is the first instance in which a designated Special MP-MLA Court is set to deliver a final judgment, verdict, or orders on the merits of such allegations involving a sitting Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. It further states that the court will adjudicate the matter based on the evidentiary record placed before it.
