JAPIUR: On December 31, the Tonk District Special Team (DST) in Rajasthan seized 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from a Maruti Ciaz car, prompting an investigation into the reason for transporting such a large quantity of explosive material. The seizure, coming weeks after the Delhi blast, has raised concerns in the state.

Tonk Deputy Superintendent of Police Mritunjay Mishra said, “The DST, led by in-charge Om Prakash, intercepted a Maruti Ciaz traveling from Bundi to Tonk near Barooni police station and seized the explosives.”

The recovered materials included 150 kg of ammonium nitrate hidden in urea sacks, 200 explosive cartridges, and 1,100 meters of wire. Two individuals, Surendra (son of Bhanwarlal) and Surendra Mochi (son of Dhuli Lal), both natives of Bundi, were arrested in connection with the case.

Authorities are investigating the purpose behind transporting the explosives and whether others are involved. When asked if the material was intended for mining or other activities, especially in light of New Year’s Eve, the police stated that all possibilities are being explored.

The seizure comes in the context of the November 10 Delhi terror attack, where ammonium nitrate was used by Dr. Umar Un Nabi to bomb a car near the Red Fort, resulting in more than 15 fatalities. During that investigation, authorities recovered around 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate.
